As many tall women know, finding the perfect pair of long black pants that fit well and feel great can be quite a challenge. That lack of comfort in our clothing can significantly impact our overall wellbeing - it really is a drain on our emotional energy.
For a full back story on how I became 'qualified' to be sharing the relationship between wellbeing and your wardrobe inclusions, read up here - Diary of a tall women wanting (beautiful) pants that fit
Today though, I'm here to introduce you to the concept of hedonic adaptation and how it influences our choices, specifically your wardrobe inclusions.
So, what is Hedonic Adaptation? Well, if your self-talk sounds similar to "I always struggle to find pants that fit well, so why bother?" or "I know they'll be too short, buying new pants will just be a waste of money and effort", then chances are you're experiencing a hedonic adaptation to the experiences.
Hedonic adaptation is a psychological response whereby we quickly return to a baseline level of emotion after experiencing pleasure or discomfort. For example, we experience a thrill buying a new thing that we absolutely love, or attend an event that has us laughing for hours. As the excitement fades, we may start seeking that initial thrill again - book another holiday, subscribe to the theatre events, go out of our way to visit the café. This cycle often leads us to constantly chase new trends, styles, or experiences in the pursuit of happiness and comfort.
It's not the destination, it's the journey kind of vibe...
However, for tall women like myself, clothes shopping has rarely been a happy experience and the why bother chatter chimes in well before we add to cart. This becomes a self-perpetuating negative cycle. I hear this all the time from the women who email me, overjoyed that they have finally found their elusive clothes-shopping unicorn.
Being a Tall Woman and Wellbeing Connection
For a tall woman, wearing well-fitting pants that feel stylish and comfortable can be a game-changer. When you wear clothes that truly fit you and represent who you are, feeling confident is easy. That then boosts your self-esteem and can positively influence your mood, but also encourages self-appreciation for your unique body shape and size. All the online reviews for the Miss G & Me garments support this.
But for many tall women, these feelings of clothing-related joy have rarely - if ever - been experienced.
And we have (understandably) adapted to the negative attachment of ill-fitting clothes and the process of obtaining them.
Is this you? Do you feel that buying new pants will be a waste of time and emotional energy? Do you assume they won't fit your taller silhouette?
Access to clothing specially designed for tall women such as Miss G & Me is one thing, having the confidence to try, is another.
And if you've read this far, I assume you'd like a hand crossing this cognitive adaptation bridge.
Firstly, here are a few positive counter-suggestions to explore next time you hear the why bother chatter:
Miss G & Me caters specifically to tall women. I owe it to myself to explore these options.
This piece of well-tailored clothing is an investment in myself and my wellbeing.
I want to embrace my body. I deserve to feel good in what I wear.
By turning our negative bias into something positive, we open up a whole new world of possibilities.
My second offering to you is our unique offer - Buy 1, Try 2.
If you’re happy to pay for return postage of the unwanted size we'll send you two sizes of the same garment to try on in your home at no extra charge* (and with no obligation to keep either size). Australian residents only - soz, internationals..
I really appreciate your 2 for 1 offer, it made it so much easier to order knowing I was taking some of the guess work out of it. The pants are wonderful and look great. (Lorelle)
And thirdly, you've read this far - you deserve a bonus. Use the code Happy Experience in the enter a promo code box at checkout, and I'll cover the postage of the two different sizes for you (please note this will be a standard delivery, not express) over the value of $99 - sorry, on sales garments are excluded. You only cover the cost to send back what's not required.
The Buy 1, Try 1 is a great option to try multiple sizes in the comfort of your own home, without the initial outlay of paying for 2 sizes. Highly recommend this option. (Esther)
By understanding and challenging any hedonic adaptation you may hold, you can discover what it's like to live unhindered by low-rise waistbands, too-short trousers and exposed wrists & forearms while embodying the Miss G & Me intent Elle va bien dans sa peau - well in one's skin.
Miss G and Me is the only Australian-made tall women’s clothing label, which reflects a passion for beautiful and sustainable fashion that fits tall women and lasts beyond a few washes.
