5 Everyday Things That Will Fit Tall Women

Updated: Sep 7

Life as a tall woman can feel like living in a dollhouse designed for people half my height. Chairs are from kindergarten, benches make me hunch more than Lurch, and shavasana on a standard yoga mat? Forget it - there’s always something dangling off either end.

And honestly, the constant background hum of “I’m too big for this… this seat, this bench, this appliance” is exhausting. What should be simple, thoughtless daily moments - driving, ironing, lying on a yoga mat - become reminders that the world isn’t really designed for us. It chips away at you in ways that only tall women truly understand.

But then, every so often, something does fit. And when it does, it feels unexpectedly magical - like stepping into a world where you belong without compromise. Those moments are rare, and they’re worth celebrating. So here are five everyday things that finally got it right.

5 Everyday Things That Will Fit Tall Women

1. Cars – From Cramped to Comfortable

I’ve done the car shuffle over the years, and I was wondering if I had princess and the pea fever, or Goldilocks syndrome - nothing quite right.

Hyundai i30: Yes, I could fit as the driver, but anyone behind me? Forget it. With my seat back to fit my 36 in inside leg length, the children were squashed in like thier daily lunch box selection. The car also sitting so low to the ground, alighting was akin to a new born giraffe first steps. A pea under my matress?

Mitsubishi Pajero Sport: Big, bold, “built tough”… but for people half my height, it seems. The side step-up? Redundant. Head space in the cabin? None. leg room? My 6’7 son up front, even with the seat fully back, found his knees were jammed against the dash - he spent a lot of long drives like that, and it wasn't a safe car for him to drive. Another pea.

2023 Kia Sportage: Finally, a car that actually respects tall bodies. With over 41 inches of legroom in both front and rear, plus generous headroom and height adjustable seat, it’s the first time I’ve felt like a car was designed for tall people and their family. No acrobatics required for this long legged lass - bliss. An exceptional bowl of porridge, you could say!

2. Yoga – Finally Room to Stretch

Yoga is supposed to be relaxing, but when you’re tall, the mat often works against you. Downward dog becomes “downward foot-off-the-mat,” and shavasana feels like a game of Twister - tuck your heels in, fold your toes, maybe angle your head just so. Not exactly zen.

Well, HELLO Iyoga Extra-Long Mat: 200 cm long and thick enough for joint support, it finally lets tall women fully stretch and relax without compromise. Head to toe, no awkward tucks - a small change, but a huge shift in comfort.

3. Ironing – Standing Tall Without Stooping

I don’t iron often or well, but when I do, it’s on my custom kitchen benches, which measure 950 mm high (industry standard is often 850 mm). That extra 10 cm makes all the difference: no hunching, no stooping. Our double wall ovens are installed higher too, sparing my back while baking. The laundry benches got the tall-friendly treatment as well, though I spend so little time there I can’t claim expertise on efficiency.

We welcomed a second hand Laurastar S Series Steam Station for Miss G & Me: and my first surprise was to find the adjustable board rose perfectly to my height, and the second, the steam gently rises to my face while I iron. Suddenly ironing is a little mini home-spa moment: clothes smoothing, and my face getting a refreshing mist all at once. Who knew ironing could double as self-care?

4. Beds – The Tall Person’s Quiet Victory

Most people upgrade a bed for width, not length. Tall people know better. Width is fine - length is everything.

Our 6’4 son proved the point: offered a wider double bed, he chose to keep his king single. Why? Extra length mattered more than elbow room. It’s the tall person’s quiet request: just give us enough to lay flat with our feet on the bed, please.

5. Bath Sheets

Standard bath towels? Tiny. Like, “handkerchief-sized” tiny. They barely wrap around my shoulders, let alone my full body. Visiting my sister-in-law and experiencing a bath sheet was life-changing. I was tempted to “accidentally” borrow one, that's what sister do, right? But instead, I treated myself to two cotton bath sheets from Bed Bath N’ Table (86 cm × 168 cm).

Finally, a towel that actually covers me. Thick, absorbent, and soft, no more wrestling with puny towels that barely meet in the middle. Bonus: pair this with a Laurastar steam ironing session and it’s a full tall-friendly, at-home spa routine.

Everyday Hacks & The Tall-Friendly Wishlist

Tall life often means redesigning your space to make it usable: higher kitchen benches, raised ovens, longer beds, and now oversized bath sheets.

There are still everyday items I’m hunting for:

  • A bath deep and long enough for proper soaking.

  • Gloves that actually cover my longer fingers.

The good news? Miss G & Me already has socks and hats covered, so at least tall women don’t have to shiver or squint into the sun.

Being tall means constantly adapting to a world not made for you. Most days, it’s crouching, folding, and improvising. But the wins of these 5 everyday things that will fit tall women: roomy cars, longer mats, spa-worthy ironing systems, beds that let you stretch, and towels that finally wrap, are worth celebrating.
