Meet Tilly: The Dressmaker’s Steam Iron Bringing Movie Magic to Tall Women’s Fashion

So, Who Is Tilly, and Why Is She in Our Tall Women's Clothing Studio?

If you’ve seen The Dressmaker, you’ll remember Tilly Dunnage, the fiercely stylish outsider who returns to her small Australian town armed with a sewing machine, couture skills, and a refusal to accept the narrow-minded rules of others. In many ways, tall women understand Tilly’s world all too well. Like her, we’ve been left out of the conversation, with others making decision for us, and maybe just quietly seeking a bit or revenge... Just as Tilly transformed her neighbours with garments that fit and flattered, we’re on our own mission at Miss G & Me to bring tall women's pants & clothes that empower, inspire, and unapologetically fit you from the top down.

That’s why it feels so fitting that our new semi-commercial steam ironing system, used on the set of The Dressmaker itself, has joined the Miss G & Me studio. Named Tilly in honour of the character, she’s here to help restore every returned or exchanged garment to its best. And trust me, some of them need it…

The State of Some Returns…

Most of our customers take great care when returning or exchanging garment, but every now and then, a piece arrives back looking like it’s been through a rugby scrum. Think: cat hair, crumpled fabric, foundation smudges, or the unmistakable evidence of a rushed try-on session. And while I can appreciate many new customers have never had their hems hit the floor expereince, we frequently see the dusty results! The cost of pressing or cleaning is never passed on to you, or I place a garment to the seconds and samples collection simply because it couldn’t be considered of an ‘unworn’ condition.

Now, thanks to 'Tilly', those garments will get the full movie-star treatment before rejoining our collection.

From Red Carpet to Rack

Laurastar steaming systems are used worldwide for professional garment care, and this one, was purchased directly from the film’s producer, Sue - 'Tilly' comes with a rather glamorous resume. Every beautiful dress from The Dressmaker passed under its steam wand, with its unique active board and vacuum/blower system designed to restore shape, volume, and texture. In short: it’s like a spa day for clothes.

And as a lass that has never indulged in ironing, or day spa's, I'm a litte too excited...

Sue was thrilled to know 'Tilly' would be joining our label, and we both agree she perfectly represents the spirit of empowering others through style and celebrating the power of clothes that truly fit.
